MEASURING THE CHANGES programme includes one day
(on Thursday, 15th of May) technical tour to the
pt
Multipurpose Alqueva Project .
Alqueva is a village in the Alentejo region , that gives the name to a huge project in the Guadiana river that intends to create a complex infrastructure which includes several dams, hydroelectric power production, and irrigation systems, with direct influence in 19 county districts in Alentejo, on both sides of the Guadiana River. The complex of the Alqueva Dam was projected to bring a solution to the problem of this area, since it is the driest and hottest region in Portugal, and has created the biggest artificial lake in Europe, in terms of surface area.

08:00 – Departure from Lisbon (LNEC Campus)
08:00 to 10:30 – Trip to Alqueva
10:30 to 12:30 – Visit to the Alqueva concrete dam
13:00 to 15:00 – Lunch
15:30 to 16:30 – Visit to the Alamos embankment dam
16:30 to 19:00 – Return to Lisbon
